Sizergh Castle

Project Value to Cheshire Scaffolds Ltd: £500k

Main Contractor: Cox & Allen

Main Contract Value: £5m

We undertook the works on the 750 year old grade 2 listed building for a tender put together by the National Trust and English Heritage with the refurbishment contract being undertaken by Cox & Allen of Cumbria. The main aim of the scaffold structure was to create a watertight environment for all sub-contractors working on site doing main façade repairs and a complete new roof system to be installed over a 12 month period.

During the one year project we chose to use the UBIX Temporary Roof System to cover all areas of the project. The reason for this was its diverse way of erecting as we could erect the main sheeted areas from the eaves scaffold platform. This reduced the need to actually step onto the roof to erect or dismantle the roof system.

The one year project was completed in two phases providing a weather tight structure for the contractor to carry out the restoration and refurbishment on the castle which has been the home for the Strickland family for over 750 years. Because of the speed and efficient method using the UBIX Temporary Roof, the contractor was able to hand over the project earlier than expected. This was purely down to the fast and complete weather protection given by Cheshire Scaffolds using this proposed roof system.
