Project Value to Cheshire Scaffolds Ltd: £750k
Main Contractor: Tremco Roofing
Main Contract Value: £5m
After considerable planning, it was decided that due to existing roofing deterioration, the high level roof of the main building (Building 15) at Kellogg’s, Manchester would be replaced. This would include additional insulation and a new roofing system.
Cheshire Scaffolds was nominated as the scaffold contractor for the external access platforms, which were considerable due to 60 degree pitch mansard roofs varying in lengths from 2m to 9m, around various locations of this roof.
Due to the complexity of the roof and the fact that it commences at 34m above ground floor level, a considerable amount of design engineering work was required to enable a safe project.
This project was divided into 12 phases as on plan the roof area was approximately 110m x 110m with additional roofs to be considered as well. All access for men and materials was to be provided by way of 3 number passenger goods hoists with scaffold access runways built on top of roofs to provide suitable walkways to all working areas.
Once at the working area a complex scaffolding design was required to provide access to the 60 degree mansard roofs to allow removal of existing roof and installation of the new roof.
The success of the scaffold on this project has resulted in a strong working relationship with Tremco Roofing, with whom we had not previously worked and also resulted in securing three smaller projects for other areas of work on behalf of Kellogg’s.
